Monitor connect VGA or HDMI?
I have a new XPS 8700 that I purchased the Dell P2314T monitor that works great. Problem I'm having is deciding what way is best to connect? HDMI or VGA cable. Both seem the same except HDMI is not identified by graphics card where the VGA cable. Also, HDMI seems slower but I can't prove that.

Hi FastfreddyK,
HDMI cable is digital display, while VGA is analog display. At any point, digital is chosen over analog display due to the quality. Read this article - http://cnet.co/1n0Om0h - for a better understanding.
VGA is old school technology. Avoid it if possible. You would notice the difference when you watch a HD video or while playing a HD game, and as to why HDMI is better than VGA. HDMI transfers both audio and video signals. While VGA only transfers video.
On your system, the HDMI cable needs to be plugged into the graphics card, if your graphics card has a HDMI port. Otherwise you would need to use a HDMI adapter as required. The 8700 has an onboard HDMI port as well. If you choose to plug the HDMI cable to this port, you need to restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - go to advanced options -> onboard device configuration -> enable Intel multi-display -> save and exit.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Thank you for the information. Wish it was included with the unit instructions.
