Bev,

I forgot to mention that there is an Intel AA number on the board, but it doesn't come up with any info on Intels Search engine. I suspect that is because of the OEM, of Dell.

Bob in NH.

The motherboards are Dell.  They are made with proprietary features to Dell's specifications by outside manufacturers and are based on a Intel chipset.

Yes, I just checked with Dell and they use the Intel 865PE or 865G in their 4600 systems. The 865G is the board you have if you chose to have "Integrated Graphic" and the 865PE is the one if you have a separate video card.

Intel no longer makes mainboards, even for itself. It uses the same Asian contractors that Dell (and just about everyone else these days) does.

The Dimension 2400 and 4600 systems and system boards are manufactured to Dell's specifications by MiTac (a Taiwanese company) in China.  They are not retail Intel boards - they are heavily modified micro-ATX size boards (but the mounting points, CPU retention bracket, rear I/O panel and front panel harness are all Dell specific).

Hi Bev,

Dell Tech Support tells me they are Intel motherboards, manufactured by Intel. She just couldn't give me a Intel model number. Only that they were 4 Layer and VATX compatible. Thanks anyway,

Bob

I believe that are based on an Intel 865 chipset.

What's so difficult?  It's an Intel 865 based board made to Dell's specifications by any number of vendors (Intel, Foxconn, Mitac, or depending on the system, sometimes MSI or Asus....)
