Mouse not Working - Help!

Hi, first time poster. Four year old Dell Dimension E520 is now longer recognising any kind of mouse. Using USB Connector port. Bought a new Logitech M100 mouse today and it works fine on my works laptop so I know its OK. When I try to install it into the PC I get this error message "The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor". But I know the mouse works fine on another PC and its brand new. Why can't my PC now recognise this device? Any ideas?

Always include the version of Windows in your posts!  :emotion-5:

Did the new mouse come with an installation CD?

You can try this:

Find the entry for the mouse in  Device Manager. Right-click and Uninstall it. Then reboot and, hopefully, Windows will see the new hardware and install a generic mouse driver. Then run the new mouse's installation CD, assuming it came with one.

Thanks for replies. I've resolved the problem by downloading "Driver Boost" programme which identified and repaired an out-of-date driver for the mouse. All now working fine.
