Moving PC Components

How do I move components of an Inspiron 580 into a new case? Should I send my PC to a technician at an extra fee? I haven't ever 'built' a PC, but I know what components a PC needs.  I won't be moving the Inspiron 580's stock PSU into a new case though as I purchased a 600W one. The motherboard of the Inspiron 580 is a standard micro-atx. I would send my PC to a technician but I hate waiting a week (waah!) for the components to be in the new case.

Thanks.

To start, I suggest you buy a grounding strap. Also, you'll need a Phillips No. 2 screwdriver and possibly a Torx T15 screwdriver.

Blow out any accumulated dust with a can of compressed air. Remove the drives and put them aside along with their screws. Remove the motherboard power connectors and cabling, followed by the motherboard screws, and then remove the motherboard. (I'd put it upside down on the case lid, resting on the CPU cooler. Remove the IO shield from the back of the old case and install it into the new case. Move the motherboard into position in the new case and install its screws. Attach the motherboard power connectors and other cables. (The headers should be marked as to their purpose, such as USB, audio, and front panel.)

The front panel connector will be the hardest task to figure out, but the pin assignments probably follow the standard 2X5 micro-ATX format. Download the manual for an aftermarket motherboard and use its pin assignments as a guide.

With the cabling installed, you can now install the drives and bundle the cabling with plastic ties, after which you should be good to go.

For a visual representation of these steps, I'd suggest looking on You Tube. Someone must have posted a video on this process.
