Mutliple computers with the same UUID number.

Is there a utility to reset the UUID number.

I have about 13 machines with the same UUID number. I'm on anoter board with someone who just emailed in saying
"we bought a few hundred Dell GX270 units recently, and they ALL have the SAME UUID"

I'm running GX110. We have also found one or two with blank serial numbers in bios, and wanted to konw how to solve that.

UUID numbers are unique, or so I thought. But so are Mac Address, but we have had multiples of those too.  WOW,

I have come across a similar situation, I had got one of my Optiplex GX260 Motherboards replaced and had difficulty with this duplicate UUID.

Fix was to update the Service tag in the System BIOS. You can do this by downloading asset.com (v2.02) from the support.dell.com downloads section. Make a bootable Floppy Diskette, copy the asset.com file onto it.

Boot from the floppy Diskette and at the command prompt type in

asset /s xxxxxxx

xxxxxxx - This would be the service tag of the machine.

Hope this helps.

The Apostate.
