Just remember...

..."shipped" means build is complete, and your PC is boxed and sitting in a Dell warehouse, where it will sit for days until FedEx *really* picks it up.  Initially, Dell just forwards the tracking number to FedEx, and nothing really happens for days.

Well it appears my shipment has made it to the Toronto Purolator sort center after-all.  I expect to have it delivered tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.  Not bad for a 11/13 order.  Looking forward to my new Studio XPS 8000.

[quote user="frankencowx"]i ordered mine on 10/21..been delayed 4 times to 12/3...GREAAAAT what makes you so special?!

Keeping in mind, my XPS 8000 has not actually been delivered.   I've only received the "It has been shipped" email from Dell.  Purolator is currently reporting my package status as being "In Transit in U.S." with a Scan Date/Time attached to that entry as 2009/11/21 01:26.  No updates since then and it's on its way to Toronto.

From that info, you'll have to decide for yourself whether it is likely to get delivered before the estimated 12/04 delivery date.  Again, my order was placed 11/13.

And if it matters - which it may - I placed my order through my usual Dell business account representative.  Perhaps these orders take priority over the general public orders and jump queues.  Just a thought.

It just arrived.  For those interested...

I ordered my Studio XPS 8000 from Dell on Friday, November 13.  Dell emailed me on November 20 that it had shipped.

Here are my Purolator delivery details...

I ordered on 10/20 with a delivery estimate of 11/16. After 2 delays (first to 11/23, then to 12/04) it shipped on 11/18 and was delivered today.  I'll open it over the holiday (with the help of my 3 y.o. - that should be interesting!)

I purchased under our company's Employee Purchase Paln.  Not sure if that helped or hurt me on getting it.

Here's the build:

What patience! I was opening mine up as the Fedex driver was carrying it up the driveway! :emotion-2:

I agree. I too had little patience when I got mine and had the blade in hand when the FedEx guy was at the door. That protective tape they put on the computer is a real pain. Be careful when you pull it off or you could pull one of the doors lose like one other person did on the old forum.:emotion-1:

I feel like a record playing on repeat over here.

Delayed again:

Ordered: 10/23

New Delivery Date: 12/7

I can't cancel it now or I doubt I'd be able to get a comparable system before Christmas.

Is there an issue with specific processors? I ordered an Intel Core i5-750 processor anyone having similar issues with this processor? Has anyone been able to get a real answer from Dell or other sources?

So we called Dell and now have another X-fi card, a new motherboard and a new tower-top I/0 panel coming next week.  I'll post again after those are installed.

Regards,

Howard

Thanks, and yes keep us informed about the headphone jack issue.  My suspicion is that the repair tech was trying to swap out hardware for something that is a design issue - that only Dell can fix.

My order was a Studio XPS 8000 - Core i7-860, 8GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive and 4350 vid-card.  Ordered 11/13, delivered 11/24.

I have been following this noise ussue thread a little so I hooked up a headset to the front of my 435T to see if I also have that probelm. I don't have a audio card other than the integrated one on the board. I too have that problem. I can plug my headset in the back and it is totally clear. I have a 4 year old Compaq computer I use for backup and tried the front audio jacks on that and it has the same problem. So it appears that this may be a problem with more than just Dell computers. Will be interesting to see how this comes out.

Well it is sad to see this audio jack problem being talking about for the XPS9000.

I just ordered one. I have a lot of posts here because in 2003 i purchased a XPS Gen 2 PC and it also had this problem. I posted many times complaining about it. So it is not going away. Back then there were at least 6 posted that had thousands of replys about this problem. After 3 + years i gave up. I was never going to purchase another DELL. I then got a Dell  DJ Gen 1. They dropped support for it after one year.

The Sound Blaster card has become a bigger problem, as they have been having static issues with this card for years now, and not just to headphone jack. That is why i got just the onboard sound as the SB cards have knowen issues. Just go read the creative forums.

I would not hold my breath waiting or thinking this is going to be fixed as it will not be.

I have an XPS 8000 and although I have not checked my front audio ports in comparison to the rear, I do think I may have an explanation.  My use of computers for forensic audio (voice) analysis literally goes back more than twenty years.  Problems very similar to what you are experiencing were around then too, and have been ever since.  My suspicion is that the cable from the mobo to the front ports has very poor shielding.  Therefore, it is exposed to picking up all sorts of noise.

Most audio pro's I know avoid the use of internal sound cards.  Exceptions are made for sophisticated cards costing nearly as much as a base XPS, if not more.  An inexpensive way to avoid some of these issues is through the use of a USB headset (with microphone if you want it).  Personally, I've never been too impressed with these either.  What works like a charm is an external interface via USB or firewire. An acceptable USB audio interface can be had for less than 100 USD.  Check in the recording section of online musician's stores for a huge selection.  You'll also get the "lite" version of some good software with most.  At the 250.00 price point, you are into the pro domain and will have pristine sound in and out.

I'm still waiting, I usually see the date change on Monday or Tuesday at about 3am EST.

The only other reason I can think of for the delay is the graphic card being out of stock. I went with the GTX260, maybe they are backordered?

Received this email yesterday

For those interested, I managed to successfully install a Corsair TX-650 power supply and an ATI 5770 video-card inside my Studio XPS 8000 (Core i7-860, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD).

Both units seem to be operating fine.  The 5770 has been overclocked to 960 core and 1325 memory on stock cooling.  It managed a 3dMark Vantage score of P10914.

The big fan on the Corsair certainly helps with internal case cooling although all the cables attached to it do take up space and are a challenge to store away inside.  Installation of both the video card and the power supply were easy and straight-forward enough.
