NEW PowerEdge 400SC Server
What are the positives and negatives to purchasing a Server as apposed to a Dell Desktop to use at Home as one PC - not on a Network - only for normal personal use?

Nothing, considering you are getting rid of the celeron. The ram is going to be expensive to upgrade - ECC costs more, but it is more reliable. Check around for prices to see what it is going to cost to get you up to 512 MB ram - You are going to need it. Good place to shop for ram - http://www.crucial.com, but there are others.
FYI... I have seen that particular server at different times for $299.
Visit this site - http://www.gotapex.com/deals.php for some good deals on Dells from time to time.
