Need Dimension 4100 System Resource CD

Hey there!

After spending over three hours on the phone yesterday with Dell's crack tech support team (based in the Philippines?!), I was unable to get a copy of our lost System Resource CD for our church's Dimension 4100.

We're not sure how it was lost, but all we'd like to do is get this machine restored to it's original state (the system crashed a week ago).  Can anyone tell me where and how to acquire a copy of the restore CD?

Thanks for any help!

A1

I have a 4100, which came with a WinMe Reinstallation disk (operating system), and a Resource disk (drivers etc.) and several various software disks as described above in Floobys post. Dell does not supply a Restore disk such as BillyHotchkiss wanted at one time. Still not sure what C/D BillyHotchkiss is looking for, or even which operating system he had (Win98, WinMe, Win2k). As for copying operating systems, I’m not really into pirated software. They are readily available from several online vendors as has been posted in this thread. The end result is if he ends up needing an operating system he is going to either have to buy an operating system C/D or more on the shady side (it’s for the church computer) beg, borrow, or steal one.

I UNDERSTAND BUT YOU NEED A PRODUCT KEY CODE, THATS ON YOUR PC CASE, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT ID CODE YOU CANT INSTALL IT, THATS WHY YOU CAN MAKE A BACK-UP COPY.

I have a 4100 that I purchased with WIN/ME (Groan...) After 6 months of that

dung, I reformatted to WIN/98se.  Trust me you are better off working toward

reformatting and installing another Windows OS.  Then download all your

drivers, win updates..etc.  Then "ghost" your hard drive to a CD.

Thanks, SBRING44.  I'm not a fan of ME, either, but it's what came with the system, and for this environment it does what it has to.

We indeed have the key code (it's still on the side of the box), A1.  I'm not looking to do anything illegitimate.  So, there were TWO CDs that made for a complete system.  Thanks for clearing that up.

Billy,

If you figure this out please tell me!!!  I've been on and off the phone with dell the past three days.  They say there are two cd's I need.  The one I don't have is the "Dell dimensions resource cd"  I was told I could get it from dell.com, but have yet to find it.  Please help!!!

I also tried to call, but they were closed.

Thank you

Bridog -

It's been a joke, and I haven't been able to find replacement CDs through Dell.  You wouldn't know that talking to Dell's support people though; each department seemed convinced that another department had it available (sales, support, parts, etc. all pointed to one another).

Instead of the recovery CD, I went for installing my own copy of Windows and downloading the drivers for the components Dell lists for the system.  Big pain in the but... And I'm not a big fan of Dell's support staff anymore.

Good luck in your quest.
