Need Help to Fix Code 37

I purchaSed a Nikon Coolpix S4300 and when I plug it in the USB cord, I get the message, "installing the device driver" and then a minute or so later it says, "Device driver software was not successfully installed."  So I go to the Devise Manager and it has the yellow explanation mark under "Portable Devices" on "Digital Still Camera"

I've read where it says to update drivers, or uninstall drivers and restart your computer, etc., I did that and it didn't help. I double click on “Digital Still Camera” and it has this message in the “device status” window.  “Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37).  I click "Check for Solutions" and I get this message, "Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 37.

So I dont know what to do.  I've seen this code 37 associated with the CD/DVD ROM but never anything else.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could help so that I can actually upload pictures from my camera!

Thank you!

D.

DELL is not responsible for Nikon Coolpix S4300 VISTA DRIVERS.

There are 32 bit and 64 bit versions of ViewNX2

http://nikonimglib.com/nvnx/index_en_int.html#os-windows

Code 37

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

Recommended resolution

The driver returned a failure when it executed the DriverEntry routine. Reinstall the drivers for this device.

Uninstall and reinstall the driver

Uninstall the driver from Device Manager, and then scan for new hardware to install the driver again. You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. However, sometimes, it will open the New Hardware Wizard which may ask for the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware manufacturer’s Web site.

On the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. Follow the instructions.

   Restart your computer.

Open Device Manager, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes. Follow the instructions.

I did everything you said long before now, but it still doesn't fix the problem.  So I don't know what to do!  I don't want to have to buy a new computer just so I can use my camera. lol

You have not installed the software linked above.

It only came out recently.  You would have to install as administrator.

This is not a dell product and not supported here.:emotion-3:

The other alternative is to install a USB SD CARD READER.

This will not however address the Quick time Movie issue.

This too is not a dell product and not supported.

How to run a program as an administrator

When you run a program function or a system function, you may receive a UAC prompt. Most of these programs are legacy programs. Newer versions of the same programs do not trigger UAC. You cannot set UAC to automatically run a program as an administrator without the user being prompted.

In Windows Vista, some programs only run correctly if you run them as an administrator. You may be able to run newer versions of the same programs without having to run them as an administrator.

Note A security risk may result by using administrative credentials to run an unknown program. Only run programs that you trust as an administrator.

Important These steps may increase your security risk. These steps may also make the computer or the network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We recommend the process that this article describes to enable programs to operate as they are designed to or to implement specific program capabilities. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this process in your particular environment. If you decide to implement this process, take any appropriate additional steps to help protect the system. We recommend that you use this process only if you really require this process.

To run a program as an administrator, follow these steps:

Right-click the icon that you use to run the program, and then click Run as administrator.

When you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the administrator password, or click Continue.
