Need license key for Inspiron 3847
I have an Inspiron 3847 Win 8.1 Desktop that has an intermittent memory slot.. I also wanted to upgrade the video card but the case is too small. So I decided to buy a new larger case and cannibalize the CPU and the 16 GB of RAM and stick them on a new MB. I have installed Win 7 from the Home Premium disks I bought to make sure everything works.
I downloaded the win 8 ISO from Microsoft, but I don't have the win 8 license key for the 3847 since it's buried in the BIOS. How do I get the key for the 3847 so I can install Windows 8?

If your Win 7 disks came with a valid Microsoft product key and Win 7 is activated on the HDD with the new motherboard, you should be able to download and install Win 10 for free. So why even bother with Win 8.1?

That was my plan until I just read Win 10 dumps the Media Center. You have to buy some 3rd party apps to replace it.
I'll still have two other PC's and a laptop running 10. That way I will not have to reinstall all my Photoshop plugins and other software on my new PC.

Get your 8.1 restore disk now because it will soon be unavailable forever.
The key is in bios so there is no COA sticker.
Dell will not provide a disk after warranty is over.

There are plenty of free apps that play all kinds of video files such as VLC which is available in the MS app store for free for Win 10.
Some installations of Win 10 include their Movies & TV app automatically, so you may not even need anything else.
