Need printer help

I have an older dell dimension (not sure the model) and a 4400. I have a Canon MP C555 that I have successfully installed and had running on the 4400 with just dial up ISP service. I want to install the C555 on the older dimension which has cable modem - when I try to install the printer it continually does not recognize the hardware - Yet when I check the lpt drive it says it is working properly. I know the cable isn't bad, because I have had the printer working on the other computer recenlty. Does the cable modem have some kind of interference with the LPT1 port? Restarting the computer windows new hardware wizard does not detect the printer either...thanks for any help. you may email me at got2bjeep@netscape.com.
