Network Driver Issue
Hi,
I'm using MDT to roll-out Windows 7 Professional x64 to Dell OptiPlex 990's and 9010's. Both types use the same Intel network adapter, however the 9010 does not like the latest driver for it. I supplied MDT's driver store with the enterprise deployment CABs Dell graciously hosts on their site. The problem is the network driver, that works well on the 990, slows down the Windows login to around two minutes and messes-up the Windows System Tray. The network icon is missing from the System Tray, and each time I try to adjust the volume, the icon moves out from under the mouse pointer and fails to respond. This doesn't happen on the 990, just the 9010. I tried an older driver from 2011 with no luck. Is there another driver I could try? I also tried using the exact same driver, that works on the 990, on the 9010 with no luck. I am kind of at a loss as to what to do next. I appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer.
Thanks

BTW: The 990 and 9010 desktop list different Intel Chipset drivers too, so could that explain your issue trying to use the same NIC driver with both systems?
990: 9.2.0.1019,A01
9010: 9.3.0.1019,A00

Just to be clear, is it a 9010 desktop or an 9010 All-In-One?
The drivers page for the 990 lists Intel Network_Driver_NNGMH_WN_18.1.0.0_A08.EXE for Win 7 x64 but the drivers page for the 9010 desktop lists Intel Network_Driver_N0F78_WN32_16.8.0.0_A00.EXE for Win 7 x64.
If both systems have the same Intel NIC, it seems logical they'd both use the same driver, but Dell hasn't updated the 9010 desktop page to list the newer 18.1.0.0 driver so maybe there's a good reason...

These are OptiPlex 9010 desktops. I was able to take the driver from a working 9010, one that was not having this problem, and import it into the MDT driver database. I disabled all Intel NIC drivers except for that one and re-ran the deployment. It worked using that driver, which comes from 2012. No slow logins, and the taskbar was in working order.
