New Hard Drive - cannot install Windows 7 Alienware Aurora R3
Hello,
I have an Alienware Aurora R3 I purchased back in 2011. I recently had a hard drive failure and was entirely unable to boot up the computer. I've moved past this and purchased a 500GB SATA 6.0Gb/s and 16MB Data Burst Cache,Dell OptiPlex.
I'm simply trying to install Windows 7 on the new hard drive, however when I run the CD, my system does not recognize the drive. My old hard drive is fried and I'm content to simply start on a blank slate with the new one.
Do I need to install a specific driver in the install setup? I've searched for an answer for a few days and have been unsuccessful. I'd really appreciate anyone's assistance.
Thanks in advance :)

You'll probably get a better response in the Alienware Club forum.

You will also need to load SATA drivers, see here:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/downloading-preparing-and-loading-sata-drivers/
Use these drivers:
http://downloads.dell.com/SATA/R285420.exe
I advise also converting the Reinstallation DVD into a Reinstallation USB following my instructions here:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/converting-your-dell-windows-reinstallation-dvd-into-a-reinstallation-usb/
Check your BIOS settings to see if you have the options to install in UEFI, a 2011 system may or may not have the UEFI BIOS as this came out around this time and became standard in 2012.
If you do have a UEFI BIOS amend the BIOS settings so you are installing in UEFI and the boot menu is in UEFI. Ensure SecureBoot is off for Windows 7. Make sure the bootable USB is FAT32 and set up to install using the GPT partition scheme. Make sure the keyboard, mouse and USB flash drive for installation are in USB 2.0 ports and not USB 3.0 ports.
