New Radeon 9200 PCI not working in Dimension 2400

Having trouble getting a brand new ATI Radeon 9200 256mb (ATI Brand) to come up on a brand new Dimension 2400.  Followed the instructions on adding the video card per the FAQ

1) Latest BIOS and set Onboard video to AUTO

2) Booted to Safe Mode and disabled the Intel Graphics in the Device Manager

3) Powered down and plugged the monitor into the ATI Card

On power up, I get no signal out of the monitor.  Windows XP does load normally, yet I can't see anything.  I have to switch the monitor back to the integrated video to get to Windows XP.  No "new hardware found" or anything like that for the ATI.  It simply isn't coming up at all, no XP video or bootup Dell logo with the 9200 plugged into the monitor.  Other things I have tried:

1) Using all 3 PCI Slots

2) Trying both the DVI (via adapter) and regular VGA connectors on the ATI

3) Resetting the BIOS to defaults

Any obvious step I am missing?  Where to go from here?

Thanks in advance for the help..

Does you mobo have intregrated audio/video? If so it's like mine although i have a dim2350 but i had the same problems you are describing. I took it in and future shop said that you have to work around the intregrated video and takes some playing.  So maybe look into that. You might have to take it in to a shop and have them bypass the intregrated video part and then it will work

Hi,

Try this method from another users success with the 9200 card...

1. Flash the BIOS with the latest version.

2. Set the BIOS to AUTO detect the graphic card.

3. Use add/remove programs to remove the integrated graphic controller driver...don't use the option on the system>device manager>hardware tab, this clearly does not remove the driver.

4. Shutdown the PC

4. Add the card in to a PCI slot...and keep changing the slot if you are having problems.

5. Connect the monitor to the new card.

6. Re-start the PC and boot into safe mode.

7. Disable the integrated graphic controller from system>device manager>hardware tab.

8. Re-boot the PC

9. Install the graphic card drivers.

10. Re-boot again and hopefully you should have full video

Good luck

Have you tried following the method above, also this another way.. It can depend on what system you have and what card??

* Connect the monitor to the added video card
* Restart the computer
* At the first beep (older systems) or on the blue Dell screen (new systems), tap the F8 key (do not hold it down)
* At some point, the Advanced Options menu will appear
* Scroll to and select Safe Mode [press the Enter key]
* At the operating system listing [press the Enter key]
* Windows will start in Safe Mode. Close any boxes that may open, just get to the desktop
* Press the Windows + Pause/Break keys
* Click the Hardware tab and/or the Device Manager button
* Open Display Adapters
* Right click the Intel listing
* Click Disable
* Click Apply or Ok. Just close all the boxes
* Click Start- Shutdown- Restart- OK or Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Restart
* The added video card will be found and it will ask for drivers

Shunney:

I'll give that a whirl tomorrow, thanks! Removing the Intel drivers should be a part of the FAQ if this proves to work.

Once thing that concerns me is that I never see any video pre-windows after using the PCI card. Is this normal where you see no video for the Dell bootup yet the video will come up after XP begins booting? I ask because removing the Intel driver isn't going to give me the initial POST video. I could live without it of course, but I wondering if that was normal to have no video until you get into XP...

No, you should have initial video, Dell logo boot screen which then you have to choose safemode.. There has been problems with certain makes of 9200, thats why there's about 5 different methods of installation floating about the forum... Anyway, as long as you leave the onboard enabled in device manager, removing the drivers won't cause you to have no vodeo, it will just default to standard vga... If you take those steps in any of the various methods, and you finally get to see the boot screen with the PCI card, then it will be ok to disable the onboard...

Good luck

well your problem might actually be your power supply. or the card just may be incapatible with your computer. i have the same computer and i have the radeon 9200 with 128 MB DDR and it runs fine, not great graphics on all my fav games but it is good till i upgrade in 6 months, anyways some of the 256 mb cards require a bigger power supply on your computer.  if i were you i would just buy a new computer like i am going to once pci exspress comes out. i am gonna get a x800 :) but anyways if you cant get the card to work after tring everything, i would just take it back and go to your local best buy or whereever and get the ati brand of radeon 9200 with 128 non SE and whatever
