New win 7 install OptiPlex 745
Hello
I loaded win 7 pro 64bit on my 745 . Did the custom which wiped the disk clean. The load froze a few times but was able to bring it up and go thru the settings. I have 2 gigs of memory .No additional cards plugged in everything runs off the motherboard. It comes up to the desk top and the video is fine until I try and go into any programs then it blinks different colors and does not come back.
Works fine with xp runs all day , Also fine in Win 7 safe mode . Do not thinks it's a connection or monitor problem. I do not have any restore points Could this be a driver issue and if so could you give me a starting point.
Thanks Mike

Dell doesn't support Win 7 on the 745, so you may have to dig for drivers.
Dell's Vista 64-bit drivers may -or not- work with Win 7 64-bit.
See if you can find a Win 7 64-bit driver for both the right Intel chipset and the Intel Q963\Q965\G965 Graphics Controller on the Intel download site.
If you also want to install an add-in video card, you'll have to go to the site for whatever video card you have (eg, AMD) and look for a Win 7 64-bit driver for that specific card.
You can download the drivers on any PC and transfer over to the 745 desktop and install them in Safe Mode. Then reboot normally.

745 works fine with windows 7. You do need chipset drivers and Vista Audio drivers.

Does it have the latest Legacy BIOS revision 2.6.6? If not use Windows XP to update the BIOS then retry the Windows 7 installation.
