No Audio Devices. windows xp
Hi all I have recently purchased a second hand dell dimension 3100. I assume that previous owner reset it back to factory settings as not alot on there and I had to do all the usuall update, but the problem Im having is that the pc is telling me that there are no sound devices installed but in device manager its telling me everything is working ok in the sound department. With this dell the sound card is on the motherboard so I have disabled that one and put in another one and it installed fine but the computer is still telling me that there are no audio devices installed. Ive tryed everything I could find on google but still cant fix the problem.
Has anyone had this problem before or come across this. Its really starting to get on my nerves now.
PLEASE HELP
Thanks Mick

Hi when I go into sound and audio devices, it says there isnt any devices. This is my problem it doesnt recognise any.
It never recognised the sigmatel but device manager was saying it was working fine. Thats why I put in a seperate one to see if that would work but I still have the same error message in sound and audio devices saying that there arent any. So im wondering if the fault is lying somewhere else as the computer hasnt recognised any of the 2 devices.

Hi Mike,
Perform the following steps if you want to use the integrated audio card:
Note: The mouse won’t work on this screen, please use the up and down arrow on the keyboard to toggle between the options.

If you want to use a separate audio card you will need to install the card, disable the integrated audio from the BIOS, install the driver for the audio card you are trying to use and select it as the default device by going into the Sounds and audio devices in Control Panel.
Please reply if you have any further questions

Audio problems can sometimes arise on Windows XP if the drivers aren't installed in the correct order.
I recommend you to install Windows XP yourself following the instructions in my wiki A Clean Install of Windows XP.
