No sound when using optical spdif connection
Hello all,
I have a XPS studio 435MT with an on board Realtek High Definition Audio. OS is Vista 64 bit Home Premium, The audio drivers are
version 6.0.1.5697 dated 9/2/2008. If I connect my speakers (Cambridge DTT3500 5.1 soundworks) to the sound card using analog connections I get sound with no issues. If I connect using the optical spdif I do not get any sound. I have set the "Digital output (optical)" tab to the default device. If I unplug the analog jack cables the tab "Speaker" tab goes away so I don't even see a way of setting up the system to use 5.1 speakers. I have verified that I am getting light thru the optical cable and that the connections are tight.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried setting the output to the S/PDIF in Control Panel/Sounds? If not, try that.
One note with the S/PDIF, from previous posts on the forum, you will only get stereo not surround sound.
