Norton Firewall Blocks Automatic Windows Update ??

Hi There:

I've set up Dell Dimension 8200 system to allow for automatic Windows Update (Start/Control Panel, click Performance & Maintenance/System/Automatic Updates).

Prior to installing Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) 2002, the system would "Donwload the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed"

Since installing NPF, the notifications have stopped.

I suspect that NPF is blocking these automatic Windows Update attempts, viewing them as an intrusion.

How can I identify the source (IP address ???) of these friendly updates, and exclude them from this blocking mechaism so that the Windows Updates are automatically downloaded to my system as they become available (as they were prior to my NPF installation?

Please be as specific as possible with any remedies, as I'm a novice at this.

Thanks in advance!

There are some things you can do. 1. Open Norton Firewall and add Windows Update as allowed. 2. You don't need to use auto-update. It wastes resources. Just check out the page once a week. 3. It may be IE 6 causing the probllem. If you can not access Windows Update page, follow the actions suggested by Microsoft by clicking HERE.
