You might also want to try to delete the key HKLM/Software/Dell/DwlMgr. Just a word of caution, first export the key in case you have to put it back.

How do you uninstall Dell Support from your computer if you have no Dell Support disk? I looked through all of the CDs that came with my computer but found no Dell Sup CD.

The only thing world class about their support is due to the fact they have farmed out technical support to different parts of the world. I have been so frustrated with their IT staff, I just quit calling. Either way, to me the program is just something I dont need on my PC. Why run something that takes up resources, then sends a report to a technical staff that can't fix anything anyway!

For me, I don't want to uninstall it though out of principal.  I want them to fix the problem, not have us avoid the problem by uninstalling the problem app.  How does that fix anything?  That's just a band-aid, not a fix to the problem.  Come on Dell, give us a patch we can download to fix the problem rather than making us just uninstall the program.  The world class Dell support is part of the reason I bought this computer, so if I can't have it I want part of my money back!

Well I uninstalled Dell Sup and guess what? I still got the problem. It seems like when I had net framework installed the "notify alert" didn't pop up near as much. Now I get it once or twice everytime I go online...Remember the Dell commercial on TV that shows the Dell tech sup team working in the dark in to the wee hours of the night?  What a crock of BS!

Hi,

I had the same problem as everyone here but with a few different circumstances and results.  I never used the dell support program and one day a popup from the program told me that I needed to update the software.  Trusting dell software (ok, go ahead and laugh) I let it go ahead and it told me it encountered an error.  After that was when the notify alert message started happening pretty much anytime I booted my laptop or brought it out of hibernation.  I never contacted tech support because after being a customer for 4 years I have given up on them except for extreme emergencies.  After reading this thread, I realized that I had never downloaded the .net update from windows update because I didn't think it applied to my system.  I tried it yesterday morning and after it installed I went to run the dell support program.  It again said it needed to update without even giving me the option to continue using the program without it.  I went ahead and after a successfull update I haven't had the problem since.  I know others have tried things similar to this and it didn't work, but it did for me.  There is side issue that I now have and if anyone has any info I'd appreciate it.  I am the only user on my xp system and I never used the logon feature before, my system just automatically booted to the desktop.  Now that I installed the .net update, it no longer lets me do that and has the logon screen come up anytime my computer starts up, comes back from a screen saver or hibernation.  If anyone knows a fix to this, please let me know.

Dan

You need to go into user manager, right click on my computer, left click on manage, local users and groups, users, and disable the ASPNET account.

I just wanted to add that I am also getting the same problem.  I tried to uninstall the program, but it would not let me just like many of you already said.  I tried looking for the .NET framework to uninstall, but could not find that either.  In the end, I just went into the support folder and deleted the whole "Notify" sub-folder.  Since I did this, the problem has stopped.  Obviously, I do not have the auto-update feature available anymore, but given the quality of the very feature made to help me with updates, I am not sure I want anymore updates from DELL.

I have lost all respect for DELL and their lousy promises as a result of this.  As a long-time customer, I have made the decision to not purchase another machine from DELL again.  I will also do my best to deter anyone I come into contact with from purchasing DELL products.  Most certainly,  I will make sure to mention the "world class support" ads are the biggest joke in the world as their own SUPPORT software has a bug they do not even want to talk about, nor try to fix.

I posted a little bit more angry of a message earlier where I told Dell to rot in a certain place (opposite of heaven). Apparently their chat filter is so sensitive that it would not let me spell the word, so I seperated the letters.  Apparently this is taboo as DELL sent me an email today saying they deleted it due to the fact this word is vulgar and small children should not read it.  HINT PEOPLE :  Its' in the bible wingnuts!  I think it is pretty obvious the REAL reason they deleted the post.  I have not used this word this time.  Delete it again and I will have to spend my entire free time on a one man ad campaign to spread the negative truth about DELL.

The sad part about the whole thing is because of the email, you know they are reading the forum, they know they have a problem, and they won't do anything about it. One would think they would at least respond to it, maybe a "hey, we are working on it", or a similar response. Have you tried any of the registry hacks I mentioned here?

September 27th, 2003 03:00

I was going to mess with the registry hacks, but just deleting the notify folder has at least stopped the program.I will give the registry hacks a check I guess.  I have just always been weery of touching my registry. like most people think, its a bit scary to me.

Good comment on the email thng.  It was exactly what I thought as well. Take the time to chide me for saying a "BAD" word (whic is just laughable that it is a bad word to anyone), but don't take the time to at least mention whether or not you are working on it.  It seems to me from reading the mail it was either from (A) some person who cut and pasted it together in less than 10 seconds or (B) from some Indian who doesnt understand english that well to begin with.

I am really interested to get a solution for this. I am another person who has the same problem. Please people of DELL support... can you let us know at least if you are working on it?

Thanks

I appreciate it

Dear Dell Representative,

I still get notify alert.exe messages once or twice a day that remind me that Dell is no longer the service oriented company they once were.

Why doesn't the Dell person who wrote or purchased this software respond?

Regards,

Rod

I would think given the length of this thread that it is obvious the answer is they really do not care.  My advice:  Do not buy a Dell again.
