Not to beat this horse into the ground, but I Googled the NotifyAlert.exe error and it brought me here.
I am a new Inspiron owner - I spent the first two days removing all the unnecessary junk from the installation Dell shipped it with. One of the first things I yanked was the .Net stuff. That's when I got the NotifyAlert errors.
I just yanked the rest of it - Dell Support and Solution Center. No more error I hope. I can't see a need for either program. I suppose they feel they are helpful to the end user, but I'm a software minimalist.
If my computer works fine without it, and I dont use it, I'll remove it or just not install it. Dell doesnt give you the option of just supplying you with a base OS install for some equipment, so gotta go clean things up on our own.
Same problem: Solution that works for me: C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\Bin\NotifyAlert.exe
Rename NotifyAlert.exe to xxxNotifyAlert.exe or some other name. Dell NotifyAlert.exe program no longer functions - have gotten no more error messages and have had no adverse effects from the change. The rest of Dell remains intact - whether for better or worse I will leave to others.
Thanks for all the help from others that pointed me in this direction cause was going crazy with the errors!
It seems that many owners have had the same frustration. I also came to the conclusion that it was associated with Dell Support. I tried Chris M./the list moderator's suggestion and found that it didn't do the job. Deleting the Dell Support wasn't straight forward but I got it done. I have had no more annoying "NotifyAlert" pop up's. I do have trouble understanding why it's there in the first place, and what its function is. What proprietary interest would Dell have developing this and why leave us hanging. Is there a page on Dell's site to explain what Notify Alert does?
Just an added note: I have two other machines from Dell (all Three are Windows XP and all are up to date with patches). They are set up fairly similar. They were MS updated the same day. The two other machines haven't had this problem. However the machine that did have the problem, also had a conflict between Dell Support and the firewall. It denied the Dell Support program access around the same time as the MS update. Day four with no NotifyAlert.EXE pop ups.
Since uninstalling the Dell Support and Dell Solutions applications, I have not yet received another of these error messages.
As near as I can tell, these things rely on Microsoft .NET, and I had removed it, triggering the original error. It was on a suspicion that I tried to launch one of those Dell apps and got a message indicating that .NET was required. I uninstalled both of these critters and am now Notify Alert free
Hi all, I had a similar issue where the Dell Alert would randomly start up. I read all the messages on the board. So I didnt uninstall Dell Support, as I didnt want any failed to load/initialize messages. And you cant seem to turn off the Alert program via msconfig or sysedit.
I gave this a try and it seemed to work:
C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\bin\AlertView ----- this is the program that starts up randomly.
I renamed it --- AlertView2 Its been a couple of days and the program hasnt launched itself anymore and there isnt any error messages at all.
I figured I would post this out...... hopefully it helps!
My problem went away. I suspect that Microsoft or Dell reached into my computer and "fixed" the problem without my having to get involved. I feel so secure knowing that these fine corporations are looking out for my best interests.
I am having this same problem and seeing that no one has posted on this recently I am just curious if Dell ever fixed the problem. (obviously not) I have talked to someone from tech support on the phone about this at least 3 times. They each ran me through a set of things to do with no good results. I am not very computer savvy and I am really getting frustrated.
Can anyone help me? I want to know if I really need the NET framework and can I live without the Dell alert program? What is the NET framework for?
ive had the same problem with dell's preloaded programs (the uninstalling and such), and ive found a solution! go and download an original winxp iso (whatever version you currently have) that hasnt been labelled by dell or gateway and burn it onto a CD. backup all important files, and then reinstall using the new CD and your original windows xp key. I'm not sure if this is illegal or not since you are using your own key which for all intensive purposes IS the license with microshaft. after the fresh install, my system was free of the dell errors, but sadly, windows was still error prone :(
For me the problem came up just after reboot. The last thing I did was load Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483).
I've given up trying to solve the problem too. I've removed the Dell Support form the PC. Based on this forum and user feedback and frustration I will add DELL to my NO SUPPORT list.
Mom, if you are reading this, I'm sorry I recommended you get that DELL. Tell Jim not to order the laptop yet. I'll call or email you tonight with some other choices! I didn't know others were as frustrated as you regarding DELL Support. My bad.

<---stopped over a dozen relatives, friends, and coworkers from getting Dells this Xmas! I either built them computers or they bought different systems. Obviously this does not bother the huge juggernaut Dell, but darn if I dont feel better!
If I bought a dell, I would just reinstall it with a regular version of windows professional, there is absolutely no software that dell provides that would be usefull.

Just a follow-up to my earlier post. In addition to renaming AlertView to AlertView2.
I also had to rename -- C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\bin\RmDellAlert ---- to RmDellAlert2.
when I renamed just the AlertView program, it did still launch the Dell Support/Alert program...... so I also renamed the above file.
Its been almost a week and it hasnt launched. Before it launched almost daily. Hopefully this workaround keeps working.
I would love to see feedback posted.... if it works for anyone else or not.
