You unscrew the thumbscrew on the back--not all the way--just until it is loose. Then you press the top and bottom back edge and slide the panel back. Your manual explains with pictures.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dkub/ Look under Removing and Replacing. Make sure you detach all cords and power and then press the power button to release any leftover charge before you open the case. Then ground yourself before touching anything inside the computer. Look at Safety Precautions in the manual.
Wow! All these years later I need to deconstruct my XPS T450, and the Web address above is the perfect answer! Thanks so much for responding to the prior message and for leaving the response here and available to others. I never would have figured it out, and the directions and manuals that came with the computer are long, long gone!
Back in the day on the good old XPS T450 I remember a game that was preloaded and want to relive those days.. From memory it was the player in a turret station and you would spin around and shoot down UFOs. I'm farely certain it wasn't my dad downloading a game on a modem, it had to be preloaded and seemed like a demo? Anyways any help would be appreciated!

Wow, I didn't think I'd see any post about the good ol'e T450's again. Just curious what are you doing or have to do?

You have to lay it on its side and remove the thumb screw in the center of the cover and press the tabs on each side and slide/pull the cover off.
