OptiPlex 3020 - Multiple Display
Hi there!
I need to connect 2 monitors to my new OptiPlex 3020... One monitor is connected to VGA port and working OK... The other monitor is connected to display port via DVI adapter and it is the problematic one. Reading official manual, support articles and forum posts I've learned "multiple display" option should be enabled in BIOS in order to get this working. The trouble is - there is no this option in BIOS - only option to set primary display (auto or internal)? BIOS version is A07 and it is newest version according documentation...
So - I am confused and need help... Thanks in advance!

Greetings Pedza123,
Thank you for your question.
First, let me clear this up: The Multi-Display BIOS option is for enabling multiple video cards. Not for enabling multiple displays. For the Optiplex 3020 the Multi-Display option won't actually show up until you put in an add-in video card into the 3020's PCI-E slot. In short, you'd only enable Multi-display if you were aiming to run the onboard video card at the same time as an add-in PCI-E card.
The first thing to do when the DP to DVI adapter is not working is to check the physical monitor itself to make sure it's monitor input setting is set to DVI. I can show you how to do this if you'll reply back with your monitor's model number.

Justin C - thank you very much for clarification...
I do not want to add additional video card into 3020 - I want (if possible) to have connected two monitors to onboard video card - one to VGA and other to DP in "duplicate" mode...
I've already checked monitor's input settings (I do not have DELL monitor - this model is produced by LG) and input settings are OK...

Pedza123,
Thanks for getting back. Understood on the input setting.
Can you provide the part number for the DP to DVI adapter you're using? An online link to the part would be great if you have that available.
What exactly is happening with the monitor connected to the DP? Just no video at all?
What you might do is unplug the VGA monitor and leave the DP monitor plugged up by itself and see if you can get video on the BIOS level ( at the Dell screen that's supposed to show after you hit the power button ). If no BIOS video, see if the monitor you had plugged up to VGA has a DVI port. If so try that monitor on the DP port with your adapter. See what happens.
Try the monitor you had hooked up to the DP port on the VGA port, if that monitor has a VGA port.
Try that LG monitor you were originally trying on the DP port that wasn't working on another system if possible, to confirm normal operation.
It's possible that there's a problem with the port itself.
