UEFI Windows 8 Secure Boot Bios will not allow 3rd party storage controllers with Boot Roms to load nor the Drivers for said card to load if a Certificate from microsoft is not in the Bios for that card.  Only LEGACY mode with ALLOW LEGACY OPTION ROMS aka CSM will work.  Furthermore any PCI-E 1.0 series card will not properly downclock from PCI-E 3.0 mode and therefore will not be "seen".

There is no JailBreaking of UEFI class 3 bios because CSM is removed from these systems. They are Windows 8 only systems.

UEFI is in the BIOS has nothing to do with OS version.

Legacy Option Rom Support is in the BIOS again nothing to do with OS version.

Secure Boot is in the bios and is specific to windows 8.

PCI-E version has to do with the chipset on the motherboard.

X1 PCI-E cards from earlier dates are not upward compatible to PCI-E  version 3.0 speeds. The XPS 730 Chipset is NVIDIA nForce 790i which is a PCI-E 2.0 chipset.

Optiplex 3020 is Intel® H81 Chipset which is PCI-E 3.0 and Windows 8 Secure Boot standard.

Hi

Thank you for the reply. The system came with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I am unaware if UEFI comes into play with 7. I have these same cards in Dell XPS 730s with 7 and they work with no problems.

Thank you for the reply that makes much more sense. I have not had the opportunity to mess with the newer computers with the UEFI and I thought it was a Win 8 thing. Looking at alternatives now.
