OptiPlex 755 Memory problem

Hello,

Just recently I bought 4 Gigs of ram for my OptiPlex 755 and installed them. During booting the computer stated that the memory had changed. When I opened My Computer / Properties It states 6gigs installed (only 3gigs usable). I searched around and I believe the problem is my system runs a 32X version of windows.

What is the easiest way to fix this problem so that my computer runs using all 6gigs of its installed ram.

My computers system Information is below

You answered your own question. If you have 32-bit Windows, it can't recognize more than ~3 to 3.5 GB of RAM.

So if you want to use all 6 GB of RAM, you'd need to update to a 64-bit version of Windows. You'll have to buy the 64-bit Windows and a valid license in order to install and run it on this system.

Do you know if all my components are 64-bit compatible though? .

You'll have to do some homework. First read this from Microsoft.

See if your CPU is 64-bit. Probably is 64-bit, but I don't know for sure.  You mght find that info in BIOS setup. (Reboot and press F2 before Windows starts to load.)  If it isn't 64-bit, it may not be worth updating to a new CPU plus new OS.. If you're thinking of 64-bit Win 8 or 8.1, you should run the Win 8 Assistant.

Then check the video card, network card and audio card. eg, Look on the nVidia site for a 64-bit driver for whatever version of Windows you plan to use.

Dell offers 64-bit drivers for Vista on this model, so if all else fails, they may work if you can't find suitable Win 7 drivers.
