Optiplex 170L: NETWORK ISSUES

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue:
-dell optiplex 170L (P4, purchased in 12/16/04)
-wireless usb Linksys NIC
-couldn't get on to the wireless network.
-loaded SP2 on the computer, and still no go (manually downloaded the SP2)
-tried to ghost a similar computer and use that imagine to test out the connectivity, still did not get on to the network
-put in a new PCI NIC, and nothing
-rebuilt a hard drive, put in XP Pro, updated NIC drivers, and updated BIOS, and still not able to get on the network.

I have tried basically everything you can possibly think of.  my next step is to change out the mother board.

Does anyone else have any suggestions/ideas/comments?

thanks,
Paul

Take the NIC back to where you got it and get a ZYXEL instead.

Wird piece of equipment. I have never heard of such a thing. I don't know that I would spend $80 on it though being a USB Nic. I would take a PCI nic over that any day. But then again the USB nic isn't a bad idea.

Its actually a great Nic, It works desktop or laptop. It fits in your pocket.
It finds WAPS and gives you their channel and type aka 802.11a/b/g as well as if they are OPEN or Secured and what type of security aka WEP , WPA, etc. Works with Mac OSX and with windows.

I have seen silly looking wireles AP finders that do not have an LCD display but rather a series of 5 leds
that indicate some kind of signal strength. This unit clearly shows the SSID if its being advertized and
works very well as a WAP Finder, Wireless adaptor, and in a pinch it can SHARE your wired connection like
the Airport series does for apple aka it can be a software access point. The silly units are $60.

You can use it to find and see if you are able to get on without ever having to take your laptop out of the bag.
