Optiplex 3010: Select USB boot priority
Hi,
Currently I have my Optiplex 3010 boot from USB (boot legacy mode). My OS is located on a USB stick. I also have an external USB HDD plugged in as data disk.
My issue is that it's trying to boot from the external USB HDD instead of the USB stick. Is it possible to set boot priority to the usb stick over the hdd?
I have never updated my BIOS (currently A05), is this something that would add this functionality or is it possible without updating?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Is the USB flash drive connected before you power the system on?
Long shot, what if you swap the USB ports being used by the flash drive and the HDD? Or possibly connect the flash drive to rear USB port?
You can review fixes/enhancements in versions of BIOS newer than A05, to see if anything affects USB and/or boot order. (Updates are cumulative.)
A06, A08, A09, A10, A11, A12, A13.
If you decide to update, go directly to A13 without all the intermediate updates. Read/follow the instructions carefully to update BIOS.

Thanks for your quick reply, Rohe.
Yes, it is. Both USB devices are. I was thinking the same and had already tried to, but unfortunately without any luck.I have reviewed the changelogs, but there's nothing about USB boot order.
The only way it currently works is to boot without the external HDD plugged in and plug it in later, but this is not really an option as the desktop is located elsewhere.

This might just be the nature of USB booting to look for hard drives before it looks for a flash drive....
So are you remoting into the desktop over a network? How do you control power to the desktop if it's elsewhere?
Tried a different bootable USB stick?
Is there a local monitor where the desktop is? If monitor has a USB port, maybe you can connect the HDD through the monitor's port which might affect boot order. If no USB on the monitor, what about trying to connect the drive through a USB hub which might affect boot order?

Currently there's a monitor attached, but after this boot issue is resolved I will detach it. I connect using SSH.
Yes, unfortunately this doesn't help.
Will definitely try this, thank you for your help so far. I'll report back once I know more.
