Optiplex 760 + DisplayPort = no output.

Hey all

I have been using my 760 as a media centre for a few months now with no problems, connected to a home theatre amp.

Currently I am using a VGA cable straight to my TV, and I have the SoundBlasater XFi external sound card to get more than 2 channels of audio, which I then connect with Toslink(fibre optic) to my home thatre amp.

However this is a messy scenario with far too many cables, so I bought the DisplayPort adapter cable so I can just run HDMI straight to my home theatre amp(which concentrates hdmi) to pass through video and audio.

But it doesn't do a thing...

I get absolutely no output of audio or video via displayport(connected to hdmi) to either my TV or my home theatre amp.

I have updated every driver possible for the 760. I have tried multiple HDMI cables. I have tried different resolutions.

Anybody got any ideas?

My thanks in advance

Mark

I forgot to mention some acer computers have display ports where I work and the audio and sound work on them I asked one of my team leaders and he showed me the audio and sound and it worked on both the pc and the external monitor he was using.

The only way around this issue I can think of is to buy a low profile HDMI PCI card when I can afford one and find an actual one that will fit in my Dell sff.

If you do find a resolve please let me know.

Many thanks and good luck mate.

Hello Mark,

I bought a HDMI to DisplayPort adapter and I got the image from my Dell 760 sff onto my TV but no sound, so you should get a picture  at least.

I don't think Dell have a driver for sound except the sound max and I think that is just for the onboard audio and for the headphone socket to work on the front of the machine.

According to Dell the display port is only for use as a dual monitor and does not carry audio, however it says on the internet that a display port will carry audio and video signals.

I think Dell have let their customers down with this and really they should have Fitted these computers with a built in HDMI connection.

I can't find a simple PCI HDMI profile card that is cheap enough to buy they are so expensive and Dell should make one that is around £10-00.

I don't really know a way around it I have been using a Bluetooth speaker when watching anything on my TV from my Dell to get the sound but its *** and Dell should put this information on the user manual about the display port not carrying sound.
