Optiplex 760 on W2k3 32bit - PCI simple comm. controller driver problem.
Good day. All devices on my PC has been installed with the proper driver except the PCI Serial Port and PCi simple communications controller. Where can I get the drivers for these devices? I have tried to locate from dell the drivers but it seems there is no driver for windows 2003 on this optiplex model.
Please help.

How about test and validate Optiplex 760 to run with Win2003?

I am not sure what you want us to do? That operating system was never tested and validated on this PC model.

I have the same probelm.
I tried to call DELL support but they do not support 2003.
I am looking for these 2 drivers for Win 2003
PCI Simple Communications Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E17&SUBSYS_027F1028&REV_03
and
PCI Simple Communications Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_027F1028&REV_03

Operating System validation is done before the PC is released for sale. Marketing decides what operating systems we will validate. This PC is validated with the following -
32-bit Windows XP Pro SP3 via Vista Business Downgrade Rights
32-bit Vista SP1 Home Basic
32-bit Vista SP1 Business
FreeDOS
Novell SUSE Linux

The simple PCI communications controller might be a modem. You can try the XP drivers for the modem.
To add to DELL-Chris M, if you want a system that's been certified for a server OS (so that Dell has support and drivers for the server OS), I suggest you look into buying a server (e.g. Poweredge T100, HP DL380, etc).

The device is not a modem. There is no modem in this computer.
I installed win2003 and it is running fine in spite of the 2 unknow devices that I decribed above.
The computer did not show any problem so far and I will use it anyway.
Maybe in the future somebody will come with the solution.

Dev Mgr, good day to you. I get your point when you said that it would be better to buy a server as it is certified with a server OS but please understand our side. If budget is not there, but you really need to test or make a server out of your desktop for certain projects, we can't just forget about a project just becuase we can't buy a server right?
To DELL-Chris M, I know you guys must be tired of reading absurd queries from us, people who patronize your products. What I wanted was just somebody from Dell to respond and confirm that what I am asking is not possible. When you makers say it's not possible, then I will stop my search for this mirage of a driver.
Thanks everyone, I guess I am facing a blank wall. I posted this thread with the hope that somewhere, somebody was able customize a driver. FYI, the desktop is running well on windows 2003 even with the two device not working.

I don't know if you got this fixed already or not but I got this to install with the AMT SOL/LMS driver which is part of the Intel chipset/motherboard drivers. If you go into the subfolder SOLinf it will use the inf files to install the needed driver. Worked for me... Now it shows as Intel Active Management Technology - SOL (COM3)

Thank you. I will try this. We have reformatted the desktop using XP. Hopefully I could try this fix in the future. Thank you!

Hi Guys, Can you share how did you get w2k3 to install on Optiplex 760? I keep getting BSOD in the middle of installation. I also can't find any w2k3 driver for this computer. I know that you can slipstream the drivers, but only winxp driver is available.

You need to do this:
Enter BIOS --> Drivers --> Sata Operation change from "RAID Autodetect / AHCI" TO "RAID Autodetect / ATA". Don't forget to save your changes. Making that change worked for me.
