Optiplex 780 CPU useage

The CPU useage often will run at 100% and the PC seems to get confused. Very frustrating, I then have to reboot and lose info. What can I do to stop this? There seems to be mo apparent reasom that I know of.

Hi blueboss,

You may follow the steps below to identify the process/application consuming the CPU resources :

  • Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on keyboard
  • Click on Task Manager
  • Click on Processes
  • Click on CPU to arrange the tab in ascending or descending order

Please share the process consuming CPU resources so that we can isolate the application that is causing issues.

You may also follow the steps below to run diagnostics on system to check the hardware functionality :

  • Power on the system
  • Press F12 button when you see Dell logo
  • Highlight Diagnostics option and press Enter
  • Note down error messages if any and post here

Please reply with the findings. Will take it further from there.

Hi blueboss,

It appears that 40% of your CPU is being used by process 'McciServiceHost.exe'. I did some research and found that the application associated with the process is AT&T Self Support Tool. You may uninstall the application if you do not intend to use it or else try re-installing the application and check if it fixes the High CPU usage issue. For more information, you may refer to the thread Here.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any further questions.
