Optiplex 790 Hard Drive Installation
I want to install an SSD in my Optiplex 790 Mini Tower. According the Specification there are supposed to be (2) 2.5" drive bays available.
I opened the cover and they are not very evident. Can you provide some guidance or a diagram showing me where these are? Do I need some sort of drive adaptor to install my 2.5" SSD?

Icy Dock MB882SP1S1B 2.5" to 3.5" converter works for all Dells All Models. It basically encloses your drive in a case that has all the mount points of a 3.5 inch drive. If the ICY dock does not work for your system then your system cannot use a regular 3.5 inch drive.

Hi chas343,
In addition to supporting standard 3.5" desktop hard drives, the OptiPlex 790 also supports 2.5" hard drives. It is important to remember that the drive sizes (3.5" and 2.5") are not offered together; you receive either the 3.5" drive or the 2.5" drive.
The 2.5" hard drive caddy fits into the 3.5" caddy that is standard for the chassis. If only one 2.5" drive is purchased, spare screws are attached to the caddy which allows you to easily upgrade. The spare screws are located on the side of the caddy to which a second drive can be installed. A separate power cable splitter is also required to provide power to the drives. The images below depict what is mentioned above:
The images below show the 2.5" hard drive caddy installed in the various 3.5" hard drive caddy's for Mini-Tower:
You may refer to the Owner's Manual of this system for assistance on replacing the parts. Please follow the safety instructions. Hope this helps.
Please reply if you have any further questions.

So what are the DELL part numbers for the 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch caddy as well as the screws if they do not come with the caddy and the cables for a 790 Mini Tower?:emotion-4:

The Silverstone adapter has all the mount points of a standard 3.5" hard drive, and it's only $8 with free shipping.
It holds two 2.5" devices stacked.
