Optiplex 9010 and 9020 poor performance during imaging
We have been imaging for many many years, and have used the Dell Optiplex line the whole time. We are currently replacingting approximately 500 Optiplex 960 and 980 workstations to Optiplex 9010s and 9020s. Our image process used to take approximately 10 to 15 minutes per machine. Now, since going with the 9010s and 9020s, they take about 30-35 minutes each. There is no network saturation, the VM server is running fine with no performance issues, we have even rebooted the VM server. We have discovered that it is something to do with the new drives that come in the 9010/9020. We can put an older hard drive from a 980 into the new machines and the image is very fast. Put the new drive back in and it is slow again. We then put the new drive in the older 980 machine and it also is slow, We have recreated this time and time again on several machines. We started thinking that it had something to do with the new 512e drives (Advanced Format) but even after aligning the disk and running the tools to prove that the disk is aligned, the image is still slow. We still have many workstations to core, so as you can imagine, adding the extra time to the image process is very inefficient. Has anyone else seen this?
Again, I want to reinterate, that we can recreate this on demand....stick an old hard drive in and the image is fast. It is something with this drive.
Thank you in advance,
Chad

Hi Speedstep,
I think we may have resolved this. We found a link on Dell's website that forwarded you to a link on Microsoft's website that had us run a patch for our WinPE to accomodate. So far we have cored seven 9020s and three 9010s and we are 100% successful in getting back to the 10-15 minute image.
