Optiplex Sound Problems
I am almost embarrased to ask this. Should there not be a onboard sound on the mobo? I have no sound what so ever. It did make a chirp when I shut it off though.:emotion-43:

Yes, there's an audio device on the motherboard (an ADI, sometimes known as Soundmax).
Some of the Optiplex models also have an internal speaker, though I'm not familiar with how they're set up. Though you also have external jacks for headphones/speakers.
In general, though, "sound doesn't work" isn't really enough to go on. Could be the speakers, the jacks, a driver problem, a settings problem, or a Windows problem. Have you tried other speakers or headphones? Did the sound ever work? Did you reinstall the OS? What do Control Panel - Sounds and Audio and the Device manager say?

Holy cow . If I'd have known that I'd have just kept quiet :emotion-4: .
The internal speaker I was talking about would have been part of the original case, not the motherboard - just a substitute for external speakers. Here where it would be in a small-form factor 280:

But most motherboards do have another tiny speaker for things like BIOS beeps, which is totally independent of the standard audio. Where it is, I can't tell you.
As for where the actual ADI device originates - whether it's integrated into the chipset, or a separate chip, or how it's wired, afraid I have no clue. And I know absolutely nothing about Ubuntu either. Sorry.

That info was what I was looking for. Neither one was working when I posted. Everthing is working now. Thanks again.
