I know it's not a simple decision for Dell to update a driver because of the need to do regression testing and validation - especially in critical areas such as AHCI/RAID. But perhaps this info can be passed on to the appropriate system integration/design folks so that they might 'visit' the IRST package and consider testing out an update to ship with new machines.

Hi Phil N,

Good info. I'll keep it handy in case someone reports that same issue.

Could you explain to me how I would install the latest chipset if my computer blue screens before it even gets to Windows 7 screen. MY error message is right after starting machine, it blue screens and IASTOR.SYS error.

There is no one size fits all.

is 10.8.0.1003 is not the latest version and Newer Versions of the driver DROP Support for Older ICH.

STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE with IASTOR.SYS indicates you tried to update to a version that is not compatible.

I faintly recall reading somewhere in Intel's IRST documentation that if you have Intel's IRST (iastor.sys) installed, it's possible to get a blue screen if the AHCI mode in machine bios is set wrong. You might want to examine bios settings for the hard disk controller advanced host controller interface (AHCI) and experiment. Beyond that, I have no idea on where to even start.
