Outlook Express problem

I have used outlook express fine for a while at my school where i was connected via a LAN connection. Now that I have gone to a dial up connection I can still receive e-mails but it will not allow me to send e-mails. I get the following error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'postoffice.uri.edu', Server: 'postoffice.uri.edu', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any help would be great. Thanks

Check your NAV - go to options - then to email protection. Does it show your email address? If so, in Outlook Express go to tools, then accounts. Highlight your mail server - go to properties - and see if your mail server is listed for incoming and outgoing. If not. change it to whatever it is supposed to be. For example mine is incoming mail (POP3) = mail.coiinc.com and outgoing mail (SMTP)= mail.coiinc.com. Change if necessary. If you don't know what to put in there, contact your internet provider.

Thanks,

Mrs A

I am on Earthlink, and mine has pop.earthlink.net for incoming mail, and smtp.earthlink.net for outgoing. I would think your ISP would have something similar. If you open OE, Click Tools, Accounts, Mail, find your mail account, highlight it, hit properties. Check the Servers tab, and see what it says there.

Actually this happens to me occasionally. I always figured it was my server's problem because if I try the next day, it works. If all your settings are correct check with your internet provider.

Thanks,
