Overclocking utility?
Anyone know of a good overclocking utility for a deminsion 8300.
Optiplex 260, 875p Chipset. P42.8ghz/HT
i know there are a few oc utilities by other companies and third party, but Dell is not listed under the supported chipsets/boards, etc.
Will these standsard intel board and chip set OC'ers work, or is there something out there that is compadible with Dell systems?
Please no warnings about the hazards that come with trying to OC your PC. Jus t some simple links and sudjested programs, will be fine. thanks in advance to anyone that helps.

Chances are slim to none that Dell will ever release a BIOS that will allow overclocking. Through the years they have kept the BIOS to the basic settings without all the extras. Some of this I suspect is to keep tech support simple.

To flash the BIOS to a non-Dell version just find out a little more about your motherboard. Chances are the motherboard is based on a Intel design, but built to Dell's specifications. So it is just a matter of finding the comparable Intel BIOS to flash to. Before doing so keep in mind that since the motherboard is built to Dell's specifications it may not fully be support by a non-Dell BIOS, the use of a non-Dell BIOS will void the warranty on your motherboard, that trying to flash back to a Dell BIOS version will be very difficult if not impossible and you may find the the Dell supplied CDs that came with your system will no longer install as they may check for a Dell BIOS prior to installing.

If you have an XPS Gen2, and your looking to increase performance(In Game), overclocking the 9800series is much safer, and easier. Ive searched everywhere for proof or attempt notes, but have found very few to none with any REAL information. Overclocking the XPS would be nice, but the Intel D875PBZ based mobo would be a terrible thing to render useless. Dell needs to(but WONT) release a Bios A04 Update addressing some of these wants/needs. Personally, I would like to tighten up my Ram timings, and adjust the Voltage on the AGP.
If you don't have an adequate cooling system(Dell), then overclocking is out of the question.....Thats the bulk of it.

PiggyB,
If your XPS still uses the Stock Fans(NMB/Nidecs), I dont recommend Overclocking your VGA. A Couple of things to consider when Overclocking a 9800XT.
1. Adequate Air Cooling
2. Good PSU
3. Aftermarket VGA Cooler
Check out this Link for a Highly Detailed, and Illustrated Site for Dell XPS Gen 1 & 2's.
Need more Specialized Technical Support Check out the XPSModz Forums
Both of these links will provide you with more than enough information on Cooling, Overclocking, and Modifying the Dell XPS. The XPSModz Forums are also linked thru the website. Good Luck!

Heres another Cheap, effective Upgrade to Cool your V.Card. Uses Three 60mm Fans that can be positioned in a number of Configs.
