PC making noise

I got my Dell Dimension 4600 yesterday and I love it. I do have one concern though. My PC makes a "squeaky/grinding" noise every so often for a second. The noise doesn't bother me, but i would prefer if it stopped because it might be damaging some parts. I took off the side case, and it didn't squeak/grind then. So I can't determine what it is making this noise, but my guess is it is the HDD or the Fan b/c those are the only moving parts. What do you guys think?

Sounds like the hard drive.  It's a trademark among the Hitachi Deathstar hard drives.  You can open the case and see if you the Deathstar.

It should be fine--enjoy your computer. It would have been nicer if it were a WD or a Maxtor, but its not.

You should not have any problem at all---Either you will get used to the sound and or it might quiet down.

If you do encounter any problem Dell will be there for you--as long as that agreement states and not a day longer.

Good Luck

lol i lied i told the guy over the fone that it was "fail" on diagnostics...  diagnostic software is never accurate, i know for a fact that the drive is defective!

I doubt they will send you a new drive because its making some noise, you can try ---all they will do is have you run diagnostic tests---they will walk you through this.

I dont do AIM

The Deskstars are actually an IBM design. They were problem drives befor Hitachi bought out IBM's harddrive manufacturing.

i'm replacing the drive tomorow, with a 7,200 RPM 8MB cache... which hdd companies make the quietest? I am going to run out to either my local staples, best buy, or circuit city, if there are any drives with hawt prices and great performance, just point them out to me please!
