PCI Data Fax Modem

Help please!!  I am no computer wiz by any means!

I currently have Comcast internet, but have to cancel. I want to use a dial-up service for the time being. Can I plug my phone into the PCI Data Fax Modem and get a dial-up connection? Or do I need to install a plain modem? Or is there a way to diasble the fax portion of the PCI Data Fax Modem?

Thanks for anyone's help.

Thanks Steve.

One more stupid question.  Do I need to unplug the comcast modem before I plug in my phone line?

The FAX modem only works as a FAX when you are sending a FAX.  Otherwise it always functions as a dialup modem.  Of course you have to have a dialup internet service to connect to before it will work.

Yes, you should unplug the comcast line (ethernet cable).  You should also modify Internet Explorer to that it will make the dialup connection.  In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options and click on the Connections tab.  You will have to Add the dialup connection and then make the selection below to always dial your default connection.

(Note that I have had a broadband connection for the last 6 years or so, so I don't remember the details of making a dialup connection, nor do I ever want to go back to using a dialup connection).

Steve:  Thanks again for your help. I will try it.

I will be going back to broadband when it is convenient. However, for now, unfortunately, I need the dial-up.
