I don't have Win2k but this info might help with Win 2000. From the menu on the left, select Win 2000> trouble shooting win 2000> CD - Rom won't work after upgrade. Also under trouble shooting 'device error codes', code28.
I downloaded and installed the chipset driver and the problem still exists. It still cannot seem to find the correct driver for the PCI device (or PCI communications controller device...there seem to be two with errors now) and my CD drives are still not registering.
I tried downloading a bunch of drivers (including one that I thought was for my modem...if I even have one) and nothing helped.
It looks like the drives show up in the BIOS. It says in the device manager that the cd drives are working because some other device isnt...that's what led me to think it was the PCI. Either way, I think i'll take it in and pay the money to get it fixed tomorrow because nothing is working.
Thanks for the help though!

Elise1981,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Download and install the chipset driver for this system for the current version of windows and this should cure your problem.

Try installing the drivers for your modem. Are the CD drives detected in the BIOS?
