pls check the port of any dust, and check the ps/2 board for bent or pins, and then make sure that the wiring is ok as well. afterwards try using a different ps/2 keyboard on to the dimension system just to make sure that your ps/2 port isnt damaged. if that works. try removing the driver via safemode (the old kb that doesnt work) and then reinstall it in normal mode. reboot and try the kb that got damaged. if this doesnt work, try going to Utility Partition via F12 press this button upon seeing the dell logo, and run the diagnostic test. if there are problems during the test call dell and give the error message for a replacement (if you have an active warranty). hope this info helps
Thanks for the reply. So far the ps/2 seems to be in order. I tried using another keyboard in the same ps/2 port and it does not work. The funny thing is that the multimedia keyboard still lights up! But the buttons do not work :( I know it is not the multimedia keyboard because I am typing on it right now! I am using a USB port replicator and have my keyboard plugged into that, making it all run usb. They keys work for it but the multimedia functions do not work. I will try to boot in safe made and check the status like you said. Thanks again for the reply!
hey there, so this could mean that the port is the culprit then, after trying it on the safe mode try using it on DOS, if you have a bootable disk try doing that. and maybe it would work there. if still not functioning, have the mobo replaced then. oh yeah no prob on the reply. anytime!
