Hi Maria,

If you are concerned about the presence of a virus, by all means, be certain that your antivirus program is current with its definitions--are you current with your updates to it?, and then run a full system scan. This will reveal any known viruses; it would be unusual to have received an unknown virus.

The term "bug" applies to an error or crash produced by Windows or other software. Since your system froze, there technically is a bug, but it may be that you can avoid this showing up in the future. It's quite possible that your system froze because of a memory error occurring due to a background program left running or the screensaver running--either of these could have what is called a memory leak which will gradually use up your memory and result in a freeze or other inappropriate behavior. In the future, save your work and end your applications if you are going to leave the computer for some time. This would stop the autosaving that you are probably doing with Word, which is not necessary when you are not working on the document. In addition, either disable your screensaver and turn the monitor off yourself (which is preferrable, due to the fire hazard inherent in monitors), or rely on your power management settings to power the monitor down.

Good luck,
Kay
