Power button failure on Vostro 260S

Hey there,

Is anywone else having issues with the power buttons on the Vostro 260S?

I supplied 31 of these units to a client of mine, and so far, we have had 11 power button failures.

Each time, the technician comes onsite 2 days later to replace the part, but there is too much time wasted and money lost by our client.

In one case, we have had the part replaced, only to have it fail again 2 weeks later.

Each time, the technician comes in and replaces the entire front panel, i/o panel and ribbon.  On his last visit, he wasn't able to secure the part in time, so he juryrigged a solution with a twist tie.  I wasn't on site, but from what I understand, the issue is that the power button assembly is flimsy and easily breaks, causing the button on the panel to not activate the switch behind it.

I've been trying to get a solid resolution to this issue, but each time, they simply replace the part again and wait for it to fail again.  One time, I was suggested to purchase Optiplex computers next time.

A 30+% failure rate is unacceptable.  This client is important to us and they are thinking of dropping Dell and our company completely.

How can I get this issue resolved once and for all?

Thank you

Mindsweep,

I finally got some information back from the Vostro team. They told me that we have not seen a systemic failure worldwide based on the dispatch history. I wish I had more help to provide.

Hi I've got 9 of them, bought 12/2011 & 7/2012 & so far 3 have had problems The first repeatedly dies without warning as if a power cut. Was returned with a new motherboard & PS but still dies at random times. Another will not boot but power button is amber. 3rd will not boot with power button unlit. Very worried about the other 6! About to contact support again. The 3rd one came from Dell outlet, so I suspect it had been returned for this problem, but not diagnosed. as intermittent. We have 40 Dells of various ages & they've always been good before. ho hum....

We have the same problem with one of them here.  Happened a couple of months after warranty expired (go figure), and was told that Dell is not aware of a problem, but there are no more power button assemblies available and they would be in touch. After 3 months still waiting for Dell support to call me back about parts availability.   Anyone find any parts elsewhere that at least work?

Did you ever find a solution to the POwer Button on the Vostro 260?

Ours just keeps getting harder and harder to turn on.

Do you know where I can purchase one?

Thanks
