2. What memory features does the PowerEdge 1750 support?
3. Memory Module Installation Guidelines
4. Why Does my operating system only see 256MB available memory?
5. Spare Parts and Upgrades
1. What type and size memory can I install in my system?
The PowerEdge 1750 supports up to four (4) PC2100 (DDR266) SDRAM DIMMs, in 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB DIMM sizes, for a total memory capacity of 256Mb mininum and 8GB maximum. This memory must be Registered ECC and must be installed in matched pairs. If four DIMMs are installed, there's an interleaving between these pairs.
2. What memory features does the PowerEdge 1750 support?
This systems memory interface supports single-bit correction (ECC) and Memory Interleaving and Set Combining.
ECC
Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) support means that the system can detect and correct any single-bit memory errors that may occur without interruption of service.
Memory Interleaving
The memory system supports 2-way interleaved memory configurations to reduce latency compared to non-interleaved implementations. Memory interleaving is a way to get your machine to access your memory banks simultaneously, rather than sequentially.
Set Combining
Set combining allows the system to treat four identical DIMMs as a single bank, preventing the system to have to switch between separate banks in order to retrieve data.
3. Memory Module Installation Guidelines
The 4 DIMM sockets are divided into 2 memory banks. The DIMMs must be installed in identical pairs, starting with the socket farthest from the power-supply bay. The memory module sockets are labeled BANK1_DIMM_A, BANK1_DIMM_B, BANK2_DIMMA, and BANK2_DIMM_B.
More information can be found in the Removing and System Components section of the PowerEdge 1750 Service Manual
4. Why Does my operating system only see 256MB available memory?
A function called " OS Install Mode" is currently enabled in the system BIOS. This function limits the amount of system RAM available to the operating system to 256MB, and is necessary for installations of older operating systems to complete.
More information on this function and how to enable/disable OS Install Mode can be found here.
5. Spare Parts and Upgrades
Dell part numbers for various DIMMs we offer for the PowerEdge 1750 can be found on our Electronics & Accessories website.
alternately, you can order these DIMMs from your salesman:
311-2887, 128MB, 1 DIMM, PC2100 (DDR266)
311-2888, 256MB, 1 DIMM, PC2100 (DDR266)
311-2889, 512MB, 1 DIMM, PC2100 (DDR266)
311-2890, 1GB, 1 DIMM, PC2100 (DDR266)
311-3070, 2GB, 1 DIMM, PC2100 (DDR266)
Note: When ordering from the website or from sales, remember to order is sets of 2. Non-registered and Non-ECC DIMMs are NOT supported in the PowerEdge 1750>.
The contents of the above part numbers are subject to change over time, as is availability of those parts.
We recommend contacting our Spare Parts department at 1-800-372-3355 for pricing, availability, and purchasing of all the above parts.
