You need to install the correct (matching) type in pairs. The system can use ECC or non ECC ram and 533MHz or 667MHz.
You need two for best performance though.
Questions: What is the max size of the RAM that the system can take? I currently have 2 x 512MB (matching) RAM sticks. Can I leave these in and stick in another 2 x 1GB sticks (matching) to give a total of 3GB RAM? Can the tower hardware/Windows XP handle this much RAM or what is the maximum amount of RAM that can be used?
Yes you can and 3GB is really the best amount of ram for windows xp pro.
4GB in 32bit windows is not used the way we would like but three is and is really a huge amount of ram.
