Precision 390 power and boot issues

Hello,

I have a Dell Precision 390 that I cannot get to boot properly. Initially, there was no power and I suspected the possibility of a burnt power supply. I replaced the power supply and the issue remains. Here are the symptoms:

  1. When the motherboard is connected to the power supply in two locations (via two sets of wires), the machine does not boot and a yellow blinking light appears on the front panel display.
  2. When the motherboard is connected to the power supply in one location (main motherboard power) and not another (a 4 pinned connector to the motherboard), the machine looks and sounds powered on, however, an image does not display on a monitor.
Your input is greatly appreciated.

Indigo223,

Did you get a resolution to this?  We have two essentially identical Precision 390 displaying intermittently the problem you describe.  Likewise I replaced the power supply on one of them which temporarily resolved the issue but after 60 days it has reocurred. Took 12 power cycles today after a user "lock up" printing a pdf file to get it to reboot.

i got exactly the same prob with my precision 390... oftentimes when i restarted my dektop it will just power up but ocassionaly there is no display and only amber light on the LED monitor without video signal. what i did is i shutdown the whole thing and removed the main plugs from the wall socket and then power it back.. the display comes back too...  but i hate doing it all over again... sounds to me that there is something wrong with the videocard or any hardware..  hope you can help me... my vcard is atifiregl v3400.. but i will be replacing it anyway.. i am waiting for my purchased gts250 so i can play games on my dektop..

try using another videocard... my dell precision 390 had the same symptoms as yours... i replaced the stock ATi FireGL V3400 with new videocard GTS 250 and all problems gone...
