Precision 650 keyboard fails on boot up

I have a Dell Precision 650 with a USB keyboard/mouse.  The mouse connects to the keyboard which in turn connects to the CPU.  When I boot the system, the keyboard and mouse are recognized, but once boot up is complete, only the mouse works and not the keyboard.  If I unplug the keyboard from the CPU and re connect it the keyboard then works.   I've check power management settings for the keyboard and i'm at the latest BIOS rev.  Any ideas?

I had the same problem which was resolved by plugging the mouse into another CPU USB port instead of plugging it into the keyboard's USB receptacle.
