Precision 690 Memory issues
Precision 690
Dual E5335 2.00Ghz CPU's
750W power supply
Windows 7 Pro x64
I had 14GB Ram - 6 slots with 2GB each and 2 slots with 1GB each. Windows reported 14.0GB (14.0 GB useable)
I have upgraded to 28GB - 6 slots with 4GB each and 2 slots with 2GB each.
BIOS (A08) shows only 2GB in each slot
Windows reports 16.0GB installed (4.0 GB useable)
I have verified in msconfig that "Maximum Memory" is not checked.
All memory is ECC, DDR2, PC-5300
What's going on? Did I get scammed on the RAM?
Is there something else I'm missing?

Yes, I have that printed out and saved on my computer. I know what memeory and how to install.
I just took all the memory out and reseated it all, pulled the MB battery, help the power switch for 30 seconds.
Now It won't boot. Get the illuminated "1" on the front panel telling me "no memory modules are detected.

I have replaced thge new memory with my old memory and the 690 starts fine with no issues.
I have tried each one of the new modules in slot 1 by itself and get code "1" with every module. Have tried combinations of 2 new modules in slots 1 & 2; code "1" every time.
Go back to original 14GB and it starts fine.
Appears that the new RAM is all bad.

Hi Losttrail,
I would try going back to your original configuration just to make sure there's not some other issue.

Either bad or incompatible. Some Dells are very picky. What is the brand and part number?
