Precision 690 problems
I have Windows 10 Technical preview on my 690 and I am having trouble. I try to run the Dell product support. It gives me this:
"We are unable to recognize the service tag detected through our scan. Please rerun the scan or contact the technical support for further assistance."
What is going on with it? I entered my service tag manually and also used the software to detect it. Any suggestions?
Thank you

It worked! Just turned off the Excecute Disable bit in Bios/Security and Win10 loaded on the Dell Precision 690 without any issue. Thanks for the clue! {:>) I guess I'll have a spare MB now at least. Was only about $30 with installed 3Ghz proccessors on Ebay. Thanks again!

Windows 10 Spartan browser is not supported yet so you would have trouble with utilities like this. Use Internet Explorer instead of Spartan Edge and skip the scan. Windows 10 is not supported yet either. So try self help

Thank you,
I was using Firefox when I tried to run the scan but I'm having problems with it. It seems all of the software made for Windows 8 and 8.1 has worked on Windows 10 so far. I just can't get this scan running.
I have updated my processor, graphics card, and sound card, what other drivers do I need to install? Is there a software that will search what needs to be updated automatically except for this dell one?
Thanks again

The scan requires DOTNET 2.0 thru 4.0 to be installed.
Turn Windows features on or off:
1. On the Start, Control Panel, Programs and Featurs, Turn windows features on or off”
2. Check the box next to .Net Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
3. The wizard will search for required files and then prompt you to download files from Windows Update.
4. Select Download files from Windows Update.
You will then have to install the DOTNET 4.0 Stand alone installer.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718
You can then run IEXPLORE.EXE to get the old IE browser.
You need to do this while you are online because it will say it cant find the software. You then tell it to get the Legacy components online from windows update. It will take a while.

Okay so I followed those steps. .NET 2.0-4.0 was already installed. I installed Dell System Detect again and it was running in the background. The diagnostic started running, got to "Updating Dell System Detect" and then said the same thing.
"We are unable to recognize the service tag detected through our scan. Please rerun the scan or contact the technical support for further assistance"
I even uninstalled .net framework and reinstalled it. Any more suggestions? should I try to refresh my computer? Waht about reinstall the OS?
Also, all of my RAM isn't showing up. It says I have 16GB installed but only 2 GB available.
Windows update wont run either, when I run 'fix problems with windows update" it says that a problem has been fixed (everytime it is ran) but windows update will still not work.

I have a Precision 690 with dual Xeon 5130 proccessors. Windows10 load failed and says the proccessors do not support NX (execute disable security feature) and therefore failed. ??? Bios says it does have that feature but named different. I have a Rev 2 board on the way that I am going to install a single quad core instead of 2 dual-core proccessors. I'll have to change the RAM to non-ECC too but hoping it'll load then. stay tuned!

Windows 8.1 and 10 64 bit require a LOT MORE than just NX. To get past the NX issue go into BIOS under SECURITY. Whatever the EXECUTE DISABLE BIT setting is now change it to what it is not.
So if its enabled disable it. If its Disabled ENABLE it. Then restart and try installing.
If it still doesn't work its because your CPU's do not do 64 bit LAHF/SAHF, CMPXCHG 128 etc.
DELL SYSTEM DETECT IS NOT FOR ANCIENT VACUUM TUBE BASED 690's

Thanks, I am actually installing 32 bit from Win7Pro. Got a lot of old software for work in this ancient vacume tube based PC. It does what I need it to do very well and I cant afford new. Yes I saw that setting in bios/security. Yes the CPU, Intel Xeon 5130 @ 2.00Ghz Duel Core (x2), supports 64bit. I do not use Dell system detect. Never thought to disable that execute disable bit though. I'll give it a shot. Thanks again!
