Yes the screenshot that I included shows the error that error. When the system is booted after shutting down it indicates that it was shut down due to CPU Thermal Shutdown.
Why don't you run through the full battery of diagnostics for your system? If you have the F12 utility partition, use that. Otherwise, go here for the download that can be used to prepare a diagnostic CD or flash drive.

The Dell diagnostics run outside the OS, so no software/hardware confusion.

I am WAAAY late for this thread...
the dell t3500 came with one of two heatsinks...
there was an aluminium one
and an aluminum one with copper heat pipes...
if you still read this thread or even if you still have the computer (again, sorry for late response, only just found this forum type thing)...
do you know which cpu heatsink you had installed in the pc?
