Precision T5810 RAM Upgrade
So, I bought a new Precision T5810. It has an e5-1660v4 Xeon, and says it supports up to 256 GB of DDR4 2400 RAM. It came with 16 GB in 4 x4 configuration, and I purchased an 8x16 kit. The only difference between the memory that came with the system and the purchased memory kit is that the kit is non-ECC, and thus cheaper and slightly faster. However, when I put the new memory kit in the system, it won't seem to post. Are there any firmware or chipset updates I need to get this amount of memory to post properly? BIOS configuration options? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does this system support non-ECC memory? If not, this will be the first time I've had a system that doesn't support both. Anyone have any ideas?

The external Technical Specifications for memory type show =
This is all I can find in the internal tools.
DDR4 ECC Memory 1866/2133MHz
Maximum 256GB
I only see ECC memory in the parts tool, no non-ECC memory =
D1MT9 DIMM, 2133MHz, DDR4, 4K, 288 Pin, 2RX4, Dual Rank, Smart Modular Technology, Registered, 1.2V, Error Correction Code
1R8CR DIMM, 2133MHZ, DDR4, 1 X 16GB, 4K, 288 Pin, 2RX4, Dual Rank, Registered, 1.2V, Error Correction Code

Okay. Thanks. I figured it was the ECC issue, but my previous system was a T3610 and it took both.
And as the specs don't even list the system as capable of DDR4 2400Mhz, which is what the one I ordered came with, I didn't know how much faith to place in the online documents.

hi ,
yes it can up to 256 GB and the system supposed to support the non ecc as it supports the ecc /
did you check on te bios the amount of the memory detected there ? in case you can access into the bios .
otherwise plz try the rams separately , may be one of them is defective."by respecting the channels"

I can't get to the BIOS. I just get a black screen. Tried waiting and got nothing after quite a long period of time. Tried it with just 64GB and with a full 128GB, and neither would POST. The memory is brand new and sealed in a single 8x16GB kit.

ok even they are new ones do plz check them separately ,
1 - try with only one Ram and see how your machine will behave ?if it working go ahead and plug the second one it may be Ethier memory or slot issues ?
in meanwhile The diagnostic LEDs are located on the front of the chassis next to the power button. These diagnostic LEDs are only active and visible during the POST process. Once the operating system starts to load, they turn off and are no longer visible.
Each LED has two possible states of OFF or ON.
can i get the led status ?

Okay. So, I switched out all these sticks, in multiple configurations, and same result. No BIOS screen. And unlike my 3610, there don't seem to be any LEDs. Just the power button and the drive activity light, which fails to come on when this RAM is in the system. Replacing with included RAM remedies the issue. It may need ECC RAM? Otherwise, I'm not certain the issue. It's the same exact specs other than it being non-ECC.
Anyway, thanks so much for the help. If anyone has any ideas before I spend 600 dollars more for the same amount of memory, feel free to chime in.
