BillyGoatG,

Are you in California?  If so, you have additional rights to have your problem resolved under warranty if the problem was not resolved during the initial warranty period.  Otherwise, contact the BBB in your state for assistance.  I hope that you have documented all of your contacts with Dell in this regard.

Look at the procedure of filing in small claims court in your state. In some states you can file without an attorney, and the paper work is fairly simple. The court will need to seve a subpoena on Dell, and a letter asking for the name and address of the person to serve will probably get the attention you need.

Try posting the problem with your specific Dell printer model on the Dell Printer forum. Maybe somebody there has some advice on getting it to communicate.

BTW: Do any USB devices work on this system? That might tell you if it's a printer or PC problem. Have you tried all the USB ports with the printer?

Doesn't the PC have a one-year warranty?

I believe I have the same problem with my Dimension 4700.  My printer was working but now it says printer isnt communicating.  I received a new printer and it still doesnt work.  I also have a digital camera which uses USB port and that stopped communicating,  I think it has to do with the actual USB ports on the tower.  I cant think of anything else.  I reinstalled drivers, reinstalled my OS,  got new USB cables.  My only other option is to either get cables that hook up to the LPT with USB on the other end or get a new tower.  Either way it blows!
